Our Humble Beginnings
Watamu Maternity was founded in 1985 by a group of passionate community health workers with a simple goal: to provide a safe and supportive place for mothers to give birth. What started as a small, single-room clinic has since grown into a full-service hospital, driven by the dedication of our founders and the unwavering support of the Watamu community.
Growth and Expansion
Throughout the late 1990s and 2000s, our hospital experienced significant growth. We expanded our services to include pediatrics, general medicine, and a fully equipped laboratory. In 2010, we opened our first dedicated emergency and trauma center, marking a major milestone in our commitment to serving the entire community, not just mothers and children.
